Educational Child Psychologist

Helping children and their support networks to overcome any social, emotional, behavioural, or learning difficulties that they are experiencing.

Empowering children through Educational Psychology

Educational psychology is the missing piece our community needs to empower children and support their learning, wellbeing, and behavioural needs. I provide comprehensive support that gives children, parents, caregivers, and educators the necessary tools for success. Together, we can help children to thrive as confident, connected, resilient, courageous and curious learners.

Support Services

Child/Parenting Support

I help families navigate challenges and build strong, healthy relationships. My tailored support addresses emotional and social concerns in children and adolescents, empowering parents and children to overcome obstacles together.

How it works

1. Connect

I will meet with parents/caregivers to listen to their aspirations, family context, child’s development and experiences, and the challenges we need to overcome.

2. Understand

I will seek further information sources to understand your child’s world. This includes your child’s voice, their school’s perspective, and may include additional learning, behavioural, or neurodiversity assessments.

3. Collaborate

Together, we will unpack the understandings we have gathered and work together to create a plan for how we can empower your child.

4. Support

We will work as a team to make changes to your child’s world so that they can overcome challenges and thrive. This may involve parent coaching (strategies to use at home), one-to-one child coaching (such as emotion coaching, social skills, coping strategies, values and/or goals based action), school support, individualised learning plans, and/or referrals to other services.

Learning Support

I work closely with children, parents/caregivers, and educators to support academic success. Through personalised strategies and collaborative efforts, I ensure each child receives the support they need to reach their full potential in their educational journey.

How it works

1. Connect

I will meet with parents/caregivers to listen to their aspirations, family context, child’s development and experiences, and the challenges we need to overcome.

2. Understand

I will seek further information sources to understand why your child is experiencing learning challenges. This will involve talking with your child about how they perceive school, talking with their teacher, and may include completing some learning assessments to investigate specific cognitive or learning strengths and difficulties.

3. Collaborate

Together, also including your child’s teaching team, we will unpack the understandings we have gathered and work together to create an individualised learning plan for how we can empower your child.

4. Support

We will work as a team to make changes to your child’s school environment. This will involve working with your child's school team to implement an individualised learning plan and monitor progress over time, to figure out what best supports your child to overcome challenges and thrive.

Workshops

My workshops are designed for parents, caregivers, schools, early childhood centres, and other professionals. These sessions provide valuable insights and practical strategies to support children's development, learning, and wellbeing.

Tell me more

Parents, teachers, school leaders, and other health professionals have pivotal roles in supporting children. The best way to truly empower children is when the adults around them share their knowledge, skills and experiences through working together.

I am able to tailor workshops to the needs of specific parent groups, educational staff, or other health professionals. This involves taking current psychology, neuroscience, and education research findings and presenting it through understandable, practical, and interactive workshops that are relevant to your context. Examples of topics include neurodiversity, cognitive domains such as working memory, emotion coaching, trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour strategies, and many more.

About

Born and raised in Rotorua, I attended St. Mary’s and John Paul College. My career began in primary teaching, eventually leading me back to St. Mary’s as a teacher, team leader, and learning support specialist. Throughout this time, I noticed an increasing number of children facing learning, wellbeing, and behaviour challenges without access to needed support. To make a meaningful difference, I chose to further my education and return with new expertise.

Rotorua is my home, and I am passionate about giving back to its tamariki, whānau, and kura. Educational psychology is the missing piece our community needs to empower children and support their learning, wellbeing, and behavioural needs. My approach is ecological, aiming to create positive changes in the environments around children, helping them to thrive as confident, connected, resilient, courageous and curious learners.

What sets me apart

Understanding that every child is unique, I tailor environmental factors to their strengths and needs, ensuring comprehensive support. My background in education and leadership provides valuable insights into the classroom experience, allowing me to develop effective, manageable and achievable interventions. As a long-time Rotorua resident, my strong community connections and focus on relationships ensure that the support I create for your child is implemented effectively.
